Agro-Economic Research Centre, Delhi
Agricultural Economics Research Centre (AERC), Delhi, was established on 8 February, 1954 vide DO No.F.2-3/52-P.C.11 as a section of the Department of Economics, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi.This being one of the 12 AER Centers established by the Government of India has worked its way through duties, responsibilities, achievements and challenges.
AERC, Delhi has been functioning as an independent Centre since 1960 and moved to its present building in 1961. The Centre was integrated with University of Delhi in 1987 vide ordinance XX-G of University of Delhi and has since functioned as a maintained institution of the University.
The Centre was established in order to fulfil the following objectives:
- The Centre was created to conduct research on agricultural and rural economics,
- Address key issues in India's agricultural economy; facilitate targeted investigations as needed by the Government,
- Foster a network for on-going applied research on significant Agro-Economic Problems,
- Engage with relevant ministries to tackle emerging issues, and assess the effectiveness of various agricultural development initiatives.
- to conduct inquiries into specific agro-economic matters that hold significant interest for the Ministry, whether at the macro or micro level;
- to participate in continuous research concerning changes in the rural economy through regular surveys and re-surveys of selected villages that represent standard conditions;
- to carry out investigations on structural modifications and critical issues within the agricultural economy and rural development of the country; and
- to offer technical advice to the Union Government and State Government on topics that may be jointly agreed upon for consultation.
